Ingo Maurer, lamp designer of international repute, has found exactly the right material for the body of his Alizz Cooper lamp in the distinctive GOLD SNAKE®high-pressure water hose made by ContiTech.
His idea when designing the lamp was to have one whose body can be bent, wound, and tied into a knot.
“For me it’s always important that lamps can be used in different ways, and aren’t made to suit just one room, or one type of furnishing in the room. Our products are designed for long-term use, which means even after moving to a different home or following a room redecoration”, emphasizes the designer.
In addition to its function of providing light, the flexibility of this lamp, which is available as a ceiling, floor or table lamp, is also aesthetically pleasing: The bends and knots create a certain degree of visual energy in combination with the lamp’s clear contours. And, what fits in very well with this concept, adds Maurer, “is the hose’s design – black with the yellow wavy line”.
It was not merely by chance that Ingo Maurer thought of the GOLD SNAKE® when searching for a suitable material for his Alizz Cooper lamp: “I wasn’t familiar with the name, but I knew the hose very well. I grew up on Reichenau Island in Lake Constance where hoses are used everywhere to water the fields of vegetables. As a child I often held the GOLD SNAKE® in my hand because we kids had to help a lot in those days”, recalls the designer who was born in 1932.
