Gas Holder Diaphragms
Continental Elastomer Coatings develops and produces gas holder diaphragms based on its own and customer-specific requirements. The range of applications for these diaphragms is almost unlimited. Our expertise allows us to produce tailor-made products, even in oversized dimensions.
- Many years of experience and excellent skills in the development and manufacture of materials and engineered products
- Everything from a single source: From planning to installation advice
- Long service life of the diaphragms
- Hot vulcanization
- Height: 2.50-22 m
- Diameter: 6-60 m
- Gas volume: 500-100,000 m3
- Extremely high seam strength
- Coating depends on the intended application
- Reduction of pollutant emissions
- Economical recycling of gas and steam
- Lowering of energy costs
- Unlike cold-bonded diaphragms, there are no weak points in the seam
- Interim storage of blast furnace gases in the production of iron and steel (N2, CO2, CO, H2, etc.)
- Interim storage of sewer gas/biogas, for example in sewage treatment plants
- Gas volume buffer in refineries
- Storage of Hydrogen (H2)
Gas Holder Diaphragms
Temporary storage of converter and blast furnace gas in steel plants
Gas holder diaphragms are used in Wiggins gas holders in steel plants for the temporary storage of converter and blast furnace gases.
Properties
- With a thickness of 2.2 mm, the diaphragms are extremely low-permeating and resistant to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +80°C
- The multi-axial polyamide layer is used as reinforcing material, delivering great flexibility and high strength
- More than 200,000 strokes, service life of over 10 years
Technical
A reciprocating piston moves up and down in the gas holder, adjusting the stored volume to the fill volume and keeping the gas at working pressure.
In all states of movement, Continentals diaphragm maintains a tight seal between the gas-holder wall and the piston.
Material used
Multi-axial layer, coated on both sides with nitrile rubber
- Weft angles of diagonal threads can be specified
- Absorption of forces from all intended directions
- Full tensile force in each thread
- Warp, weft and angle can be adjusted
Steam Accumulator Diaphragms
Collection and recirculation of steam in tank systems
Steam accumulator diaphragms are used in the collection and recirculation of steam in tank farms within the mineral oil industry. Alongside economical advantages like saving raw materials and energy costs, steam accumulator diaphragms permit a more than 95% reduction of pollutant emissions.
Properties
- Low permeation rates and high resistance to commercial fuels
- High tensile strength and temperature resistance (up to +70°C)
- Extremely high seam strength, even when exposed to fuels (tested by German BAM agency)
Technical
A reciprocating piston moves up and down in the steam accumulator, adjusting the stored volume to the fill volume and keeping the gas at working pressure.
In all states of movement, ContiTech's diaphragm maintains a tight seal between the gas-holder wall and the piston.
Material used
- Reinforced with ultra-strong, low-stretch polyamide fabric
- Fabric coated on both sides with nitrile-base rubber
- Fabric construction highly resistant to hydrolysis
Sewer Gas Diaphragms
Temporary storage of fermentation gas and biogas
Sewer gas diaphragms are used for the temporary storage of fermentation gas and biogas, which are used as fuel for heat recovery or steam generation.
Properties
- High tensile strength, high flexibility, high media resistance, resistant to temperatures from -25°C to +70°C
- Highly impermeable to gases
- Unlike cold-bonded diaphragms, no weak points appear in the seam when exposed to condensate
- Many years’ service life (more than 100,000 strokes)
Technical
A reciprocating piston moves up and down in the sewer gas holder, adjusting the stored volume to the fill volume and keeping the gas at working pressure.
In all states of movement, ContiTech's diaphragm maintains a tight seal between the gas-holder wall and the piston.
Material used
- Reinforcing material manufactured from high-strength, low-stretch polyamide or polyester fabric
- Fabric coated on both sides with chloroprene-base rubber
Diaphragms for Various Types of Gas and Steam
In addition to applications associated with gas holders, steam accumulators and sewer gas accumulators, we also produce accumulator diaphragms for special areas of application.
Choosing from a broad spectrum of elastomer compounds and fabrics of various strengths, we develop optimized solutions to suit individual customer requirements.
Thanks to the wide variety of base materials used in combination with special materials, Continental diaphragms are – depending upon their intended application – chemically resistant to acids/fuels/oils and are also resistant to pressure and temperature extremes. Our diaphragms are adapted to suit media that are already in use and future-oriented special applications.
