Together with representatives of the city of Qingdao, ContiTech has held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant for automotive hoses in China. The new construction has an initial floor space of approximately 15,000 square meters in the Sino-German Eco Park of Qingdao West Coast New Area. The company plans to invest more than 20 million Euro for the first step. In July, ContiTech had signed a corresponding memorandum of understanding during a delegation trip through Germany, which was headed by the Governor of Shandong province. The groundbreaking ceremony marks a full start of the first-phase of the project and the related expansion of production capacity.

The new plant has a projected annual output of about 15 million low pressure hoses in its first full-capacity phase. Depending on the market development, the company intends to further expand the new plant in a timeframe of five years, the expansion is expected to be completed by 2020. In the next few years, the existing production of heating and cooling hose lines will be moved to the new factory, which is located only a few kilometers away from the current site.

The plant in Qingdao is ContiTech’s fourth plant for mobile fluid applications in China. Currently, the company has more than 40 locations worldwide producing hoses and hose lines for different kinds of industries, including heating and cooling hoses, air-conditioning hoses, turbochargers and brake systems.
